Earthquake Resilience of Healthcare Facilities in Kocaeli Region

Implementing Partner: Build Change

Project Name:Earthquake Resilience of Healthcare Facilities in Turkiye

This project assessed the earthquake resilience of healthcare facilities in Kocaeli, a high-risk seismic zone, using FEMA-P58 methodology and Türkiye’s Earthquake Buildings Code (TEBC-2018).

It evaluated hazards, risks, and building performance to identify vulnerabilities and strengthen critical infrastructure. By enhancing disaster preparedness, the study ensures healthcare facilities remain operational during earthquakes, safeguarding public health and preventing service disruptions.

Its findings support strategic interventions for safer, more resilient medical facilities.

Impact

1

This project assesses the earthquake resilience of Kocaeli’s healthcare facilities, analyzing structural strength and vulnerabilities. Using Türkiye’s Earthquake Buildings Code, it identifies risks and weaknesses, guiding improvements to enhance disaster preparedness in this high-risk seismic zone.

2

The study examines how healthcare infrastructure responds to earthquakes, assessing hazards and structural integrity. Its findings support targeted improvements, ensuring medical facilities remain safe, reliable, and operational during seismic events to protect public health and emergency services.

3

The findings help planners and policymakers enhance healthcare facilities, building a more resilient system. This research strengthens disaster preparedness, protects communities in earthquake-prone regions, and ensures critical health infrastructure remains functional during seismic events, reducing overall risks.
