Landslide risk mapping, database, and mobile app for Bhutan
Landslide risk mapping, database, and mobile app for Bhutan
Implementing Partner: Build Change
Project name: Landslide risk mapping, database, and mobile app for Bhutan
This project developed a digital landslide risk map and an integrated database accessible through the Bhutan Landslide Information mobile app.
Previously, risk maps were mostly in print, limiting accessibility, while the lack of a unified database hindered monitoring and disaster preparedness.
This initiative improves data availability, enabling precise risk assessments, early warnings, and informed planning. By enhancing accessibility and usability, it strengthens landslide resilience, supports risk reduction efforts, and promotes safer development across Bhutan.

Impact
1
This project created a digital landslide risk map and database integrated into the Bhutan Landslide Information app, enhancing accessibility to real-time risk data. This advancement supports informed decision-making, strengthens disaster preparedness, and improves resilience in vulnerable areas.
2
Users can pinpoint their exact location on the interactive map and assess nearby landslide risk levels. This tool empowers communities and authorities to evaluate vulnerabilities, implement timely preventive measures, and enhance disaster preparedness to minimize potential damage.
3
The app enables users to contribute to risk monitoring by reporting landslides and logging locations, strengthening real-time data collection. This fosters community engagement, enhances situational awareness, and supports more effective landslide management across Bhutan’s vulnerable regions.
