Enhancing Risk Information for Infrastructure in Kiribati, Maldives and Timor-Leste

Implementing Partner: United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)

Project Name: Enhancing availability, quality, and use of risk information for critical infrastructure to reduce disaster risk, increase resilience and strengthen early warning systems in Kiribati, Maldives and Timor-Leste

The project strengthens disaster risk data systems and early warning capabilities in Kiribati, Maldives, and Timor-Leste to reduce risk, minimize disruptions, and enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure and services.

It will evaluate existing capacities and identify gaps in disaster loss tracking, focusing on infrastructure, early warning mechanisms, and disaggregated data to support evidence-based decision-making.

Governments and stakeholders will receive training on risk data collection, sharing, and utilization, fostering inclusive and resilient development.

Impact

1

The project will enhance early warning systems in Kiribati, the Maldives, and Timor-Leste by integrating high-quality risk data. This will enable faster, more precise alerts that safeguard lives, infrastructure, and essential services during disasters.

2

It will strengthen disaster-related statistics and economic loss assessments, equipping governments with the tools to track infrastructure damage, assess disruptions, and make informed investments in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate adaptation.

3

The project will build national capacity to collect and utilize disaggregated disaster risk data, fostering inclusive, evidence-based decision-making that strengthens resilience for vulnerable populations and critical infrastructure systems.
